Pedestrian crossing hit-and-run

In Krasnodar on the evening of October 31, a Ford Focus struck two pedestrians — a 40-year-old woman and a nine-year-old child. As reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Krasnodar Krai, the accident occurred at 19:35 on Geroev Razvedchikov Street: the woman and the child were crossing the road at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing, that is, one without traffic lights, when a passenger car driven by a 45-year-old man hit them. Both victims were taken to a medical facility in serious condition.

What is known and what remains unknown

Police officers have launched an investigation and are establishing the circumstances of the incident. The department's statement does not specify how fast the car was traveling or whether the driver was sober behind the wheel — these questions, apparently, are part of the investigation. The only thing known is that the crossing where the collision occurred is not equipped with traffic lights, meaning that under the traffic rules the driver was obliged to yield to pedestrians.

A separate accident in Tatarstan

The Life.ru article also mentions another incident unrelated to the Krasnodar one: in the Almetyevsky district of Tatarstan a GAZ van collided with five passenger cars at once at a railway crossing, and five people were injured. According to preliminary data from the State Traffic Inspectorate, the truck driver, born in 1991, failed to maintain a safe lateral distance, clipped a Hyundai, then drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a Volkswagen, a Geely, a Kia and a Renault. Witnesses suggested brake failure, but law enforcement agencies have not confirmed this version.
