The key facts
- Sudan's Foreign Ministry said it had handed the US documents on the use of American weapons in the conflict
- The handover took place in 2025 during a visit by a delegation led by Minister Salem
- The contents of the materials, Washington's reaction, and the fate of the detained Ukrainians remain unknown
Khartoum announced that it had handed evidence over to Washington
Sudan has handed the United States materials which, according to the Sudanese authorities, confirm the use of American weapons in the ongoing internal conflict. This was stated by the republic's Foreign Minister Muhieddin Salem in an interview with RIA Novosti, cited by Life.ru. According to him, the American side received the relevant information back in 2025: the Sudanese delegation to Washington was led personally by Salem, and one of the goals of the visit was to hand over documents on the origin of weapons that had ended up in the combat zone.
What is known and what remains unclear
“We handed the American side numerous pieces of evidence and documents confirming the use of American weapons in Sudan”, Life.ru quotes the minister as saying. According to information available to Khartoum, the weaponry came not only from the territory of Ukraine but also from other sources. At the same time, Salem did not disclose the contents of the handed-over materials: it is unknown which specific weapon models appear in the documents and whether Washington produced any response.
Context of the conflict
Earlier, the same outlet reported, citing its own materials, that Sudanese forces detained Ukrainian snipers and instructors who had fought on the side of the Rapid Support Forces against the government army: some of the foreigners were killed in clashes, others were taken into custody, and along with them the military seized weapons. The confrontation between the regular troops commanded by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the formations of Mohammed Hamdan Daglo has been going on since April 2023 and has resulted in numerous casualties and millions of displaced residents. The statement by the Sudanese Foreign Ministry remains the only public source about the handed-over documents: no independent confirmation of the contents of the materials or of a response from the American side is available in published reports.
