Diplomats resign amid internal crisis

Poland's ambassadors to China and Romania — Jakub Kumoch and Paweł Sołoch — have resigned amid the political crisis in the country. The diplomats announced this on the social network X, as reported by Life.ru. The trigger was the events surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal following the removal from office of its president, Bogdan Święczkowski, and vice-president, Bartłomiej Sochański. Kumoch wrote that 'in light of the events in the country' he could no longer perform his duties as ambassador, and said he had submitted his resignation and requested his recall.

What is happening around the Tribunal

According to Life.ru, Poland's Constitutional Tribunal has called what is happening around the court an attempt at a coup d'état. As the situation escalated, President Karol Nawrocki urgently returned to Warsaw and met with First President of the Supreme Court Zbigniew Ziobro... met with First President of the Supreme Court Małgorzata Gersdorf — no, with First President Zbigniew Kapuściński — and with the suspended head of the Constitutional Tribunal, Bogdan Święczkowski. The authorities are sending police officers from different regions of the country to the capital: the conflict continues to escalate. The ambassadors' resignations show that the crisis, which began within the judicial system, has now also affected the diplomatic service — however, the publications do not report any reaction from the Polish authorities to the diplomats' statements.
