Meeting at the presidential palace

Polish President Karol Nawrocki, after an emergency return to Warsaw, met with First President of the Supreme Court Zbigniew Ziobro... reports the Polish portal Onet (retold by Life.ru).

Interrupted visit and the trigger for escalation

Nawrocki cut short his flight to Senegal and ordered the plane to turn around because of the events surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal, explaining the decision by the need to be personally in the country at a tense moment. The trigger for the escalation was the decision to suspend Swiecicki from his duties for a month; Justice Minister Waldemar Zurek also initiated proceedings to strip him of immunity. The authorities accuse the tribunal's leadership of obstructing the work of the new judges.

The essence of the conflict and accusations of an attempted coup

The standoff between Donald Tusk's government and the leadership of the Constitutional Tribunal is connected, among other things, with the appointment of new judges, among them former minister in Tusk's government Marcin Berek, whose appointment is opposed by the opposition. Earlier, according to Life.ru, the tribunal itself accused those involved in the conflict around it of attempting a coup d'état: amid protests, the institution announced an unlawful takeover of its official website, and supporters of the suspended head demanded that his access to the building be restored.
