Alcaraz reaches the Vienna final

Carlos Alcaraz beat Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 (7/2) in the semifinal of the Vienna Open on Saturday and advanced to the final, where he will face either the new world No. 1 Alexander Zverev or Alex de Minaur. AFP reported the news.

Course of the match and the Spaniard's streak

The victory extended the seven-time Grand Slam champion's unbeaten streak at ATP 500 events this season to 15 matches. In the first set, Alcaraz broke in the fourth game, but Medvedev immediately broke back. The score stayed level until the fifth game, when a double fault by the 30-year-old Russian gave the Spaniard two set points at 5-4, and he converted the first of them. In the second set, Medvedev fought back: after Alcaraz went ahead 4-2, he broke his opponent's serve to love, but in the tiebreak Alcaraz won five points in a row and sealed his place in Sunday's final.

A consolation result for Medvedev

For Medvedev, despite the loss, the week in Vienna proved productive: his fifth consecutive run to at least the semifinal of a tournament secured the former world No. 1 a place at the ATP Finals, which will take place next month. In the other semifinal, Zverev, who will take over the No. 1 ranking from Monday in place of the injured Jannik Sinner, will face the tournament's fifth seed, Australia's de Minaur.
