Bilbao leads the price drops

Skyscanner has published a list of destinations offering the best value for money for 2027, reports euronews. The list is based on the percentage drop in prices for economy-class return flights booked in the first half of the year for travel during 2026, compared with the same period last year; accommodation costs were also taken into account. According to the service, travellers can save up to two-thirds on flights.

Top 5 destinations

First place went to Bilbao in Spain: airfares fell by 66% and hotel accommodation by 63% compared with 2025. The city is known for the Guggenheim Museum and its gastronomy — pintxos served in local bars. Second place went to Wrocław in Poland, where flights became 47% cheaper and hotels cost less than in other major cities of the country; among its attractions is Cathedral Island with its gas lamps and the UNESCO-listed Centennial Hall. Third place went to Bordeaux: flights dropped by a third and hotels by 9%. Rounding out the top five are Zurich (a third off flights, 13% off hotels) and Ancona in Italy (down 31% and 13% respectively).

Further down the list are Rhodes, Greece (-22%), Pula, Croatia (-20%), Carcassonne, France (-20%), Fez, Morocco (-19%) and Krabi, Thailand (-15%). Skyscanner CEO Bryan Batista noted that travellers are becoming more mindful of their spending: “They prioritise meaningful experiences over material things, seek confidence in every booking decision and, in some cases, use AI during the planning process.” According to euronews, despite the cost-of-living crisis, most Europeans are not cutting the number of their holidays, but are choosing destinations more thoughtfully in an effort to save money.
