Visit of the French delegation and tram discussion
A delegation of French companies led by Gérard Wolf, special representative of the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs for sustainable urban development and transport, visited Uzbekistan. As Kun.uz reports, citing the Dunyo news agency, during the visit, negotiations were held at the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade with the participation of representatives of Alstom, SUEZ, Veolia, EDF, MND, Dassault Systèmes, IVECO and the architectural firm Wilmotte & Associés.
What was discussed for New Tashkent
The parties considered opportunities to attract French investment and technology in energy, transport, water supply, utilities, digitalization, tourism and urban planning; particular attention was paid to modernizing urban infrastructure and improving the efficiency of utility systems. The delegation also visited New Tashkent, where, in addition to launching tram services, they discussed the development of water treatment systems, modernization of heating supply, the introduction of renewable energy sources and smart city technologies, as well as the development of tourism infrastructure in the new city.
Outcomes and what remains unknown
Following the meetings the parties expressed interest in advancing joint investment initiatives; the expansion of ties with the French Development Agency and relevant companies was also discussed separately. The publication does not report any decisions made, timelines or financing for the tram service — for now, the discussion concerns exploring specific areas of cooperation, not signed commitments.
