The key facts
- Exit from Yaroslavl toward Moscow closed from the intersection of Moskovsky Prospekt with the Southwestern Ring Road
- The governor urged citizens to avoid traveling in that direction
- Sobyanin: 862 drones flew toward the Moscow region, 170 shot down on approach; the Defense Ministry reported 1,214 drones shot down overnight
Traffic closed for security reasons
Traffic on the exit from Yaroslavl toward Moscow has been closed for security reasons. This was reported by Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Yevrayev in the Max messenger. According to him, the road is closed from the intersection of Moskovsky Prospekt with the Southwestern Ring Road. The governor urged citizens to refrain from traveling in that direction and its vicinity, and, if necessary, to choose a route that bypasses this area.
Scale of the drone attack
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that since the evening of October 29 862 unmanned aerial vehicles had flown toward the Moscow region; according to him, most of the drones were destroyed at distant approaches, and 170 on approach to Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on the night of October 29 one of the largest drone attacks on Russian regions was carried out: in total, according to the ministry, air defenses managed to shoot down 1,214 drones. Sobyanin's and the Defense Ministry's figures refer to different formulations — the direction toward the Moscow region and the total across regions — so they should not be compared directly.
Context
Earlier in Russia, an anti-drone system for protecting industrial facilities was presented — its presentation was reported in July. The sources themselves do not state the reasons for closing the road in Yaroslavl beyond the general wording 'for security reasons,' nor do they mention any possible damage or casualties.
