New bridges on Palm Jumeirah

Construction of two new pedestrian bridges has begun on Palm Jumeirah island in Dubai. As reported by the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the bridges will be built near the Shoreline and Golden Mile residential complexes. According to The National, the works are part of a 'package of traffic improvement projects' implemented to enhance pedestrian safety, improve traffic flow, and facilitate movement between residential, tourist, and commercial facilities. The bridges are expected to serve around 16,000 residents.

Context: other road projects in Dubai

Pedestrian projects on Palm Jumeirah represent another step in the city's infrastructure development programme. In the same statement, RTA reminded that the final bridge of the World Trade Centre roundabout reconstruction project will open on 30 October: its length exceeds 1 km, its capacity is 3,000 vehicles per hour, and travel time between Al Majlis and 2nd December streets will be reduced from six minutes to one minute. This project complements the Al Mustaqbal Street development programme, scheduled for completion in 2027, which includes bridges and tunnels with a total length of 1.5 km and expansion of the street to four lanes in each direction.
