Smoke at a depth of 800 meters

On the morning of October 29, 2026, at 06:05, the on-duty operations shift received a report of smoke in the conveyor incline of a mine working at the minus 800 m level of the Severny mine of Kola MMC in Zapolyarny, Murmansk Region. This was reported by the regional Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia on its website. 79 people were evacuated from the mine; according to the agency, no one was injured.

Rescuers' actions and the situation on site

Six personnel and equipment from the Pechenga separate mine rescue platoon of the ASS of JSC KGMK were dispatched to the scene. When the first units arrived, smoke was observed, but there was no open burning. Thus, this is so far a case of smoke in the mine working rather than a fire, and a full evacuation of the shift with no casualties.

Context: other accidents at mines

This is not the only emergency at Russian mining enterprises in recent weeks. In early October, a rock collapse occurred at the Vostochny mine in Primorsky Krai: 22 people were in the mine at the time, and one worker was injured. Earlier, in Kamchatka, two gold mining workers were injured. Unlike these cases, the incident in Murmansk ended without injuries — the evacuation was completed before the situation could worsen.
