Three phone calls in a single day

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held separate phone calls on Thursday with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Romanian President Nicusor Dan and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. The topics of the conversations partially overlapped: bilateral relations and ways to develop cooperation in various fields were discussed in all three calls, while regional and international issues were addressed with the Romanian and Spanish leaders.

Condemnation of the Houthi attacks

According to SPA, Lee Jae-myung expressed South Korea's condemnation of the attacks by Yemen's Houthi group on civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia, while Sanchez condemned the attacks and declared Spain's 'full solidarity' with the kingdom. The calls took place against the backdrop of the Houthis' ongoing escalation against Saudi Arabia: in October, missile and drone strikes on facilities inside the country intensified. Context provided in the report: Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government since March 2015, while the Houthis have controlled Sanaa and part of the country's territory since September 2014.

Condolences over the disaster in Spain

During the call with Sanchez, Mohammed bin Salman offered condolences over the train collision in Spain and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The death toll from the collision of two high-speed passenger trains near Toledo rose to 69 on Thursday after one of the injured died in hospital. With the Romanian leader, in addition to the regional and international agenda, the existing cooperation between the two countries and ways to strengthen it were discussed.
