Interception over the Eastern Province
Saudi air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Yemeni Houthi group toward the kingdom's Eastern Province overnight into Thursday. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki announced the interception on the social network X, without giving details or reporting any casualties or damage. This was reported by the Anadolu agency.
Civil Defense warning
Before the interception was announced, Saudi Civil Defense issued a warning for the Eastern Province due to an unspecified threat, and later announced that the threat had been neutralized for the Eastern Province and Najran.
A series of interceptions over several days
The incident continued a series of attacks: on Wednesday, the coalition reported intercepting and destroying a Houthi ballistic missile heading toward the western city of Taif, and late on Tuesday night, debris from two intercepted missiles damaged a building, a construction site, and a car in the capital Riyadh — according to Civil Defense, with no casualties. The interceptions come amid an escalation between the Houthis and the Saudi Arabia-led coalition that backs the internationally recognized government of Yemen; the coalition has been fighting the Houthis since March 2015, after the group seized Sanaa and other parts of the country in 2014.
