Six strikes in two districts of the province

The Yemeni army said on Wednesday that its warplanes carried out six airstrikes on Houthi positions in the southwestern province of Taiz. The command of the Taiz military axis published two statements on Facebook, as reported by Anadolu.

What is known about the details

According to the first statement, three strikes hit the districts of Al-Misrakh and Samea in the south of the province. The second statement reported three more strikes on Houthi positions on Mount Al-Arma in the Jabal Habashi district west of Taiz. The army did not specify either the targets of the strikes or whether they resulted in casualties or property damage. The Houthis have not issued an immediate response.

Context of the escalation

Military escalation between government forces and the Houthis resumed in July, especially in the provinces of Taiz and Lahj; according to UN reports, it has killed and wounded thousands of people. Yemen has been at war since September 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and a number of provinces, and the Saudi Arabia-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
