Traffic accident in Oltinsoy district and launch of an internal investigation
On October 18, 2026, at 08:20, a traffic accident occurred in the Oltinsoy district of Surkhandarya region involving a Chevrolet Captiva whose driver failed to comply with a lawful order by a traffic police (DPS) inspector to stop. According to official data from the press service of the regional Interior Department's Road Safety Directorate, the inspector began pursuing the violator in an official vehicle; however, during the chase, the Captiva driver — who did not hold a driving license — moved into the oncoming lane and collided with a Chevrolet Gentra traveling on the main road. As a result of the accident, the Gentra driver sustained bodily injuries and was hospitalized at the district medical association.
An internal investigation has been launched regarding the incident
Regarding the traffic accident, the Oltinsoy district prosecutor's office is conducting a pre-investigation inquiry. In parallel, the leadership of the Surkhandarya regional Interior Department has ordered an internal investigation to legally assess the actions of the DPS officer who carried out the pursuit. The investigation materials specify that the inspector acted within the scope of his official duties, but the circumstances of the pursuit and its influence on the violator driver's behavior will be examined separately. Earlier, relatives of the injured Gentra driver reported that five people were in their car at the time of the accident, that after the incident no one inquired about their condition, and that the vehicle sustained serious damage.
