Crash on Emirates Road
In Dubai, a truck crashed into a metal road barrier and came to a stop off the roadway. The accident occurred on Emirates Road (E611) after the interchange in the direction of Abu Dhabi. According to reports, the driver fell asleep at the wheel and lost control. He sustained minor injuries and received medical assistance right at the scene, The National reports.
Police warning
Following the crash, Dubai Police issued a warning about the dangers of driving while fatigued. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, explained that fatigue reduces concentration, alertness and the ability to react quickly to unexpected situations, increasing the risk of collisions. According to him, tiredness slows reaction time and impairs decision-making, which can cause a driver to lose control, drift out of their lane or crash into roadside barriers or other vehicles.
“Losing concentration for a few seconds”
“Driving while tired or exhausted reduces a driver’s ability to concentrate and respond to sudden situations on the road. This can lead to loss of control, collisions and serious risks for drivers, passengers and other road users,” the publication quotes bin Suwaidan as saying. He warned that a driver may believe they are able to continue their journey despite fatigue, but losing concentration for just a few seconds can end in a crash.
Advice for drivers
Police urged drivers to rest before setting off and to stop in a safe place as soon as they feel tired or drowsy. They were also advised to stay in their lanes, follow road signs and pay close attention to road conditions. Dubai Police reminded the public about the Aman Roads road safety platform (www.amanroads.gov.ae), which contains materials on dangerous driving habits and safe practices, and stressed that raising awareness of unsafe driving is essential to reducing accidents and protecting lives and property. Earlier, Abu Dhabi Police had already circulated footage of crashes caused by inattentive drivers, urging motorists to stay focused behind the wheel.
