The key facts

  • In 2027, May 1 is a Saturday, Easter is Sunday, May 2, and the day off is moved to May 3
  • Three days off in a row: May 1–3
  • Easter last fell on May 2 in 2021

A rare calendar coincidence will give three days off

In 2027, May 1 falls on a Saturday, and Orthodox Easter falls on Sunday, May 2. Under the Labor Code, if a holiday coincides with a day off, it is moved to the next working day, that is, May 3. As a result, Russians will have three days off in a row — from May 1 to May 3. TASS was told this by Darya Lantratova, First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs; she noted that such a calendar coincidence is a rare event.

When such a coincidence happened before

The publication notes that the previous time Easter fell on May 2 was in 2021 — meaning that in 2027, the Monday after Easter will become an extra day off for the first time in six years. This has practical significance for planning vacations: Valentina Romanova, HR Director at Level Group previously advised taking the production calendar into account, since vacation in months with a large number of working days (March, April, July, August, September, or December) has less impact on income.
