Cyberattack on Belgium's finance authority
Belgium's Federal Public Service of Finance (FOD Financiën) announced on Wednesday, October 28, that its digital services have been disrupted as a result of a cyberattack. Euronews reports on this.
What is offline and what changes for taxpayers
As a precautionary measure, while the investigation is underway and systems are being secured, the online tax portal MyMinfin — which individuals and companies use to file declarations and manage financial documents — has been temporarily taken offline, along with a number of other online services of the authority. For those affected by disruptions to tax filing deadlines, the authority has promised to extend the deadlines; new dates have not yet been announced.
Data and the investigation
According to the authority's statement, there is currently no indication that anyone's personal data has been compromised, but the verification is ongoing. Thus, neither the scale of the attack, nor its source, nor the final timeline for restoring services is yet known — the report is limited to the authority's own statement.
