The key facts
- Reddit introduces two tabs on the homepage: “For You” and “Following”
- “For You” combines posts from subscribed communities with personalized recommendations
- Some users who tested the new feed expressed dissatisfaction with the change
New homepage structure
Reddit announced on Wednesday that when users open the platform, they will now see two feed options: “For You” and “Following.” According to TechCrunch, citing the company's announcement, the “For You” tab combines posts from communities the user has joined with recommendations tailored to their interests, while “Following” shows only posts from subscribed communities. Users will be able to switch between the feeds, and the next time they open the platform, the one they viewed last will be displayed.
What actually changes
Although Reddit has long recommended posts from communities a user is not subscribed to, the new layout is the first to give these recommendations a dedicated feed on the homepage. The company explains the change as an effort to “foster connection, engagement and belonging” and to help users discover new communities and discussions. In Reddit's blog, the new feed is called a “first step” toward discovering “the new and relevant — an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest.” With this launch, Reddit joins platforms that already use “For You”-style feeds, including Instagram, X, Threads, and Facebook.
User reaction and timeline
Not everyone welcomes the update: some users who encountered the new feed during testing have already expressed dissatisfaction with the change — they preferred to see only posts from communities they had joined, without recommendations in their home feed. Complaints about content from unfamiliar subreddits and unwanted recommendations were posted in the r/help section even before the official announcement. Nevertheless, the company is rolling out the new interface globally over the coming weeks, so users will not be able to opt out of the “For You” tab — they can only choose which feed is shown by default.
