Meeting in Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Moscow on October 28. The meeting is taking place on the sidelines of the third Russia–Africa Summit, following the events of the Economic and Humanitarian Forum; the course of the talks is reported by a TASS correspondent, as cited by Life.ru. The conversation with the Egyptian leader opens a series of bilateral meetings between the Russian president and the heads of African states.
What is planned next
After the Putin–el-Sisi talks, a formal reception will be held in honor of the summit participants. Then, according to the plan, the Russian president will meet with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso. In total, an extensive series of talks with the leaders of the continent's states is scheduled within the summit; the main focus, as the outlet notes, is on trade and economic ties, investment, and the development of bilateral partnership.
How el-Sisi ended up in Moscow
El-Sisi received the invitation to the summit in advance: according to Life.ru, it was extended personally by Putin on September 11 during the presidents' meeting in India. At that time, the Russian leader recalled that both had stood at the origins of this format of cooperation — at the first summit in Sochi in 2019. Thus, the meeting in Moscow became a continuation of the agreements reached a month and a half before the summit, and Egypt formally opens the program of the Russian president's bilateral contacts at the forum.
