A rout in Sassuolo and first place

Lazio crushed Sassuolo 6-2 on Tuesday and moved to the top of Serie A, AFP reports. The hosts were down to ten men after Christian Thorstvedt was sent off in the 31st minute, although the Roman club had been in control of the game even before that moment.

Floriani's first goal

In the 17th minute, right-back Romano Floriani — the great-grandson of the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini — scored his first goal in Serie A. 'I am very happy to score my first goal, but even happier about this victory, which is extremely important for us,' he said after the match. During the game, Lazio also saw goals from Kenneth Taylor, Gustav Isaksen, Mattia Zaccagni and Tijjani Noslin, who scored a brace despite missing two penalties. For Sassuolo, Thorstvedt and Sebastiano Esposito found the net.

Lead over Inter and Gattuso's call for caution

After nine rounds, Lazio have collected 25 points out of a possible 27 and lead the defending champions Inter by three points; the Milan side play bottom club Venezia on Wednesday. Head coach Gennaro Gattuso nevertheless warned the team against euphoria: 'We shouldn't look at the table, otherwise we'll get a headache and start thinking we're really good. We must not stray from our path — the path of hard work and taking it one match at a time.'
