Fire at a transformer substation
On October 27, a video spread on social media showing a person on fire in the street while passers-by tried to put out the flames. The posts claimed that as a result of a transformer explosion, a multi-story building was left without electricity, and the injured person was taken to hospital in critical condition. According to Kun.uz, citing JSC Tashkent City Power Grids, the fire broke out at a transformer substation of the Parkwood residential complex on Nukus Street in the Mirabad district.
Cause and circumstances
According to preliminary data from the enterprise, the fire started during repair work on the transformer due to a phase-to-phase short circuit. The statement also noted that the person seen in the video is not an employee of the district power grid: the repairs were carried out by workers of a private company serving the consumer. Moreover, the transformer substation itself is not on the balance sheet of the Tashkent territorial branch of JSC Hududiy Elekt Tarmoqlari — this explains why outside specialists, rather than the grid operator, carried out the work.
The injured
The Tashkent city administration reported that two young men suffered burn injuries of varying degrees and are receiving medical care. The condition of the injured has not been disclosed. Based on the published data, it is not yet possible to confirm the details circulating on social media about the building's power outage and the critical condition of the injured person.
