What happened in Antalya
Three tourists from Russia — two young men and a woman — set out the previous evening to explore the walls of the 13th-century Alanya Fortress in Antalya, Turkey, but were unable to find their way back. This was reported by Life.ru, citing the SHOT Telegram channel. The fortress stands on a rocky peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea, rising 250 meters above the city, and its walls stretch for about 6.5 km.
The rescue and the context
When darkness fell, the Russians found themselves on a rocky section from which they could not get out on their own, and they called emergency services. Rescuers located them in a hard-to-reach spot and evacuated them; according to the report, the tourists were stuck in the fortress for several hours.
Similar incidents involving Russian tourists
The same article recalls earlier similar episodes. In the summer, on Bali, a 22-year-old Russian woman and her 23-year-old companion were left cut off from the exit on Padang Padang beach, where the film Eat Pray Love was shot: at high tide, the water blocked the only way out of the cove, which can only be reached by a staircase and through a tunnel between the rocks. Due to darkness and strong waves, the rescue operation dragged on into the night, and the tourists were lifted out of the cove using climbing equipment. It was also previously reported that the couple managed to reach rescuers by phone after their car fell into the Seine.
