Pere Romeu, head coach of Spanish Barcelona's women's team, has received the award for the best coach of the 2025/26 season from the French magazine France Football. The winner was announced at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, and the award was presented to Romeu by Spanish specialist Rafael Benítez. As Life.runotes, the jury took the teams' results over the past season into account when choosing the winner.

Barcelona's trophies of the season

The basis for the award was an almost complete set of trophies: under Romeu's guidance, Barcelona's players won the Champions League, the Spanish championship, the domestic Cup and Super Cup, as well as the Catalan Cup. In the final of the main European competition, the Catalan side thrashed French Lyon 4:0.

The coach's reaction

During the ceremony, Romeu thanked the players and club staff for their joint work and stressed that he considers the individual award the achievement of the entire team. He also noted the contribution of young academy graduates who were given the opportunity to play for the first team.

Context of the ceremony

The same ceremony in London proved unsuccessful for Russian Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov: according to Life.ru, he lost to Spaniard Unai Simón in the race for the Lev Yashin Award, given to the world's best goalkeeper of the 2025/26 season. Simón became a world champion with the Spanish national team and set a tournament record by keeping a clean sheet in seven of eight matches; Safonov was among the contenders but did not win the vote. The award is named after Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin, winner of the 1963 Ballon d'Or.
