The key facts

  • Dutch startup Elysian Aircraft is developing the E9X electric aircraft capable of carrying 90 passengers over distances up to 1,000 kilometers.
  • A key design feature involves placing heavy batteries within wings spanning more than 50 meters.
  • Commercial operation of the aircraft is scheduled for 2034 following completion of all required testing and certification procedures.

A New Phase in Electric Aviation

Dutch startup Elysian Aircraft has begun developing the large-scale electric aircraft E9X, capable of transporting 90 passengers over distances up to 1,000 kilometers. The project, as reported by Zamon.uz, is currently in the phase of testing key technologies, with developers planning a phased achievement of flight range: first 800 kilometers, and subsequently the targeted 1,000 kilometers.

Technical Features and Challenges

A unique structural feature of the E9X is the placement of battery packs directly within the wings, which will have a span exceeding 50 meters. To provide thrust, the aircraft is equipped with six electric motors. The primary engineering challenge remains controlling the weight of the structure: each battery module weighs approximately one ton, requiring a careful balance between energy capacity and the total mass of the aircraft. Previously, the creation of such large electric airliners was considered technically nearly impossible; however, the company's research has proven otherwise.

Timeline for Entry into Service

Commercial operation of the E9X aircraft is scheduled for 2034. Until that time, the project must undergo necessary tests and certification procedures for clearance to commercial flights. Successful implementation of this initiative could open new opportunities in the short- and medium-haul passenger transport market, contributing to the reduction of harmful gas emissions into the atmosphere.
