This was announced on the channel of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, reports Gazeta.Ru. The distribution of places among universities will take place on a competitive basis by December 29.
Who will get more places
In drawing up the plan, forecasts from the Ministry of Labor and the results of the 2026 admission campaign were taken into account. The main emphasis was placed on achieving technological leadership, so enrollment in in-demand specialties has been increased: the largest increase is provided for mechanical engineering, computer science, clinical medicine, nuclear energy, and information security. Most state-funded places have been allocated to engineering, natural sciences, medical, teacher training, and agricultural fields. According to the publication, specialties related to mechanical engineering will receive 516 places, the field of 'computer science and computer technology' — 290 places, and clinical medicine — 283 places.
Context of the admission campaign
Earlier, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education reported that 450,159 people had already been admitted to universities: 333,583 were enrolled in bachelor's programs, 86,499 in specialist programs, and 30,077 in basic higher education. Admission to master's, specialist, residency, assistantship-internship, and postgraduate programs continued, with final results of the campaign planned to be summed up at the end of September. Separately, it was previously proposed in the State Duma to allocate separate university places for perfect-score students.
