Revolut will open access to private companies for retail investors

British fintech Revolut has announced plans to launch the Revolut Ventures platform, which will allow ordinary investors to invest in non-public technology companies. According to the publication, the new platform is expected in 2027 and will be built into the Revolut app alongside existing tools: stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), bonds, and money market funds.

Why the company is entering this market

In justification, Revolut cites data showing that private technology companies are going public later and later: the average age of a business at listing has grown from 6.9 years in 2014 to 11 years in 2025. This means that a significant share of companies' value growth happens before the IPO, when their shares are unavailable to retail investors.

Context and risks

The announcement followed the launch in July 2026 of private-market investment products in a number of European Economic Area (EEA) countries. At the same time, the publication emphasizes that investing in private companies involves serious risks: unlike public shares, they are harder to sell, and investors may lose a significant part or all of their invested capital. The launch comes amid Revolut's expansion: earlier this year the company received full banking licenses in the UK and France and is considering a dual listing in London and New York, although no timeline has been named. For now, this is an announcement of plans: specific access terms, the list of companies, and the exact launch date have not been disclosed.
