Bus veers into roadside ditch

On the morning of October 26, in the Novosibirsk district of Novosibirsk Region route bus No. 115 veered off the road into a ditch. This was reported by the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on its Telegram channel. According to preliminary police data, the driver lost control, after which the bus left the roadway. A traffic police crew is working at the accident scene.

The injured and the Investigative Committee's probe

Eight people sought medical assistance and were taken to a medical facility in the district center. According to Life.ru, one of the injured is in serious condition. The regional branch of the Investigative Committee has launched a pre-investigation inquiry: investigators are to establish the circumstances of the incident and check whether the driver properly provided passenger transportation services. The bus was traveling from the village of Leninskoye toward the settlement of Goluboy Zaliv.

Context: other bus accidents

The accident in Novosibirsk Region occurred against the backdrop of a series of recent bus crashes in various regions. On October 13, at the 1433rd kilometer of the M-5 highway in Bashkiria, a passenger car and a bus collided; photos from the scene showed serious damage to the car — a torn and crumpled hood, a shattered bumper, and broken windows. Earlier, in Yekaterinburg, two buses collided on the Serov highway: according to a source, a Ford minibus stopped at a red light, while the driver of a route Yutong bus failed to keep a safe distance; five passengers of the Ford Transit were injured. In addition, in Tver Region, seven people were injured in a crash involving a Toyota.

Why this matters

A route bus veering into a ditch raises the issue of the safety of regular passenger transportation: eight people were injured at once, and the Investigative Committee's probe directly concerns how the driver provided transportation services. A practical consequence will be the investigation's establishment of the circumstances of the crash and, possibly, an assessment of the carrier's actions. Note that the exact number of injured according to the Interior Ministry was still being clarified at the time of publication, and the cause of the accident has not been officially named — it remains unknown what exactly led to the loss of control.
