Houthi statement on attacks in southern Yemen
Yemen's Houthi movement on Monday claimed responsibility for two missile strikes against Saudi forces and weapons depots in the southern provinces of Aden and Lahij, a spokesman for the group said. In a statement published on the social media platform X, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said the strikes targeted military positions in the Salah al-Din district of Aden and the Al-Wahat district of Lahij, Anadolu reports.
Claims of casualties and the subsequent shelling toward Riyadh
According to Saree, the group launched several ballistic missiles which, he claimed, accurately hit their targets, 'killing and wounding dozens… destroying and burning a number of vehicles and weapons depots.' He also said that the attacked positions and military assets were under the control of Saudi officer Badr al-Harbi. The statement came hours after the Houthis launched a ballistic missile toward the Saudi capital Riyadh; the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed it.
Context and limitations of the information
All data on the results of the strikes — the number of casualties, destroyed equipment, and the ownership of the positions — comes exclusively from the Houthi spokesman and has not yet been confirmed by independent or Saudi sources in available publications. The editorial board notes that casualty figures from conflict zones traditionally require verification, and parties to the conflict often give conflicting assessments. It is also unknown whether the Saudi-led coalition will take retaliatory action.
