Warnings and context

On the morning of 26 October, a missile danger alert was declared in Voronezh Region — the warning was issued at 05:47 Moscow time. Later, the governor reported that a UAV attack over the city and its suburbs had been repelled.

Attack on Belgorod the day before

The day before, on the night of 25 October, according to the authorities of Belgorod Region, strikes were carried out on Belgorod. Regional Governor Alexander Shuvaev reported that the number of injured had risen to 18 and the number of dead to two. According to the authorities, five residents, including a 16-year-old girl, sought hospital care and were diagnosed with barotrauma. After the drone raid, the city recorded damage to 30 apartment buildings and four private homes, eight commercial facilities, 35 cars, three administrative buildings and three social facilities. Shuvaev stressed that he is personally overseeing the aftermath response. Earlier, the city had been attacked three times in a single day.

Why this matters

The events affect residents of two border regions at once: over two days, civilian casualties have been confirmed in Voronezh and Belgorod, including children. In practical terms, this means continued work by emergency services on the ground, restoration of damaged housing and infrastructure, and the continuation of the danger alert regime that was in effect on the morning of 26 October in Voronezh Region. According to the Voronezh Region governor, casualty figures may be revised.
