The key facts

  • Construction of BRT has begun on a 1.4 km section of Amir Temur Avenue and a 1.4 km section of Yangi Sergeli Street
  • The work is being carried out in the central part of the road, with traffic maintained on the remaining lanes
  • A unified Yangi Sergeli — Shota Rustaveli — Shahrisabz — Amir Temur line is planned

New sections of the dedicated lane

Construction of two more sections of a dedicated bus lane similar to BRT has begun in Tashkent — on Amir Temur Avenue and Yangi Sergeli Street. This was reported by Gazeta. The work is being carried out in the central part of the roadway, while traffic in both directions continues along the remaining lanes. The Center for Traffic Organization urged drivers to take possible difficulties into account and, where possible, choose alternative routes.

Scale of the first stage and the unified route

The first stage of the work covers 1.4 km of Amir Temur Avenue — from the intersection with Ahmad Donish Street to Shahristan Street — and 1.4 km of Yangi Sergeli Street from the intersection with Choshtepa Street to the SOUEAST service center. Construction of the BRT line on Shahrisabz Street continues in parallel. Once all sections are connected, a single line will appear along these streets following the route Yangi Sergeli — Shota Rustaveli — Shahrisabz — Amir Temur.

Plans to expand the network

Earlier, the capital's city administration reported that the BRT system is also planned to cover Mukimi, Karatash and Kukcha Darvoza streets, Parkent Street and Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue. Thus, the sections currently under construction are part of a wider network of dedicated lanes being formed in the city. For drivers, the nearest practical consequence will be possible traffic complications on the affected streets: the Traffic Management Center recommends planning detour routes in advance until the work is completed.
