The key facts

  • A BRT dedicated lane section about 1 km long has been opened on Shakhrisabz street — from the intersection with Amir Temur avenue to Makhtumkuli street.
  • The total length of the continuous BRT line on Shota Rustaveli and Shakhrisabz streets has reached almost 8 km.
  • In the future, the corridor is planned to be extended to link the Sergeli and Yunusabad districts of Tashkent.

New bus lane section opened

In Tashkent, another section of dedicated bus lane about 1 km long has been opened on Shakhrisabz street. This was reported by the press service of the Center for Traffic Organization (CTO). The new section runs from the intersection of Shakhrisabz street with Amir Temur avenue to the intersection with Makhtumkuli street — between the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and City Maternity Complex No. 6, notes Spot.uz.

The continuous line has reached almost 8 km

After the section was put into operation the continuous BRT line on Shota Rustaveli and Shakhrisabz streets totals almost 8 km. This was reported by both the CTO and the outlet Kun.uz. The lane is located in the central part of the road and, according to the CTO, should reduce buses' dependence on traffic jams, improve service regularity, and make travel times more predictable for passengers.

Project background

The first BRT section on Shota Rustaveli street opened in October 2025. According to Spot.uz, its length was about 7 km, and the cost of the road reconstruction was $19.2 million. Earlier, the outlet also reported that Tashkent plans to create BRT lanes totaling 17.9 km on four streets. Meanwhile, Kun.uz indicated that the first stage of the lane was delivered in September precisely on Shakhrisabz street; the discrepancy in details about which section was considered first remains with the publications.

Future plans

In the future, the BRT corridor is planned to be extended to link the Sergeli and Yunusabad districts of the capital into a single transport corridor. The CTO promised to additionally announce the next stages of the project, possible changes in traffic organization, and the construction schedule.

Why it matters

The expansion of the dedicated lane directly affects bus passengers on one of Tashkent's busiest routes: according to the CTO, the lane in the central part of the road reduces travel time and makes the schedule more predictable. For private vehicle drivers, this means a change in traffic organization on the section between Amir Temur avenue and Makhtumkuli street. Further stages and possible changes are so far known only from the CTO's statements, which promised to publish information as the project progresses.
