Trump's visit to Moscow is not on the agenda

A visit by US President Donald Trump to Moscow is currently not on the agenda of Russian-American contacts. This was reported to RIA Novosti by Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov. “Right now this is not being discussed; right now everyone is looking at Shenzhen,” the Kremlin spokesman explained, answering a question about the possible arrival of the American leader in the Russian capital.

Focus on the APEC summit in Shenzhen

The main attention is now focused on the Chinese city of Shenzhen, which will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on November 18–19. As part of the event, the possibility of talks between Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and PRC Chairman Xi Jinping is being considered, however there is still no final agreement on a trilateral meeting, notes Life.ru.

Willingness exists, agenda does not

Earlier, Life.ru reported that the Kremlin allowed for the possibility of a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump and Xi Jinping. According to Peskov, all three sides have a fundamental readiness for such contacts, but an agreed agenda is still lacking. The November APEC summit was named as the presumed venue for the talks. Thus, at this point only the date and venue of the summit are confirmed, while the trilateral meeting itself remains merely a possibility under consideration — its holding depends on whether the sides manage to agree on an agenda before November.

Why this matters

Peskov's statement clarifies the near-term plans of the three countries' top diplomacy: instead of a Trump visit to Moscow, the discussion is shifting to the APEC summit in Shenzhen on November 18–19. For observers and market participants, these dates are the practical reference point: if an agenda is agreed, the first trilateral meeting of the leaders could take place there. For now, however, according to confirmed information, there is no agreement, and any assumptions about the format of the talks remain premature.
