Congratulation on the occasion of the Uzbek Language Holiday

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the people on 21 October 2026 on the occasion of the Uzbek Language Holiday. According to him, the place of a language in people's lives depends primarily on how effectively it is used. «When a child can clearly express their thoughts in it, a student can study complex subjects, and a citizen can easily understand the essence of an official document, we see the result of the work on developing the language,» the head of state emphasized. He noted that a language embodies the memory of the people, their knowledge, experience and aspirations, and called for continuing the traditions of ancestors while enriching the language with new knowledge, technologies and examples of creativity.

Harmony and respect for languages

The president called Uzbekistan the common homeland of representatives of different nations and ethnic groups and emphasized that an important foundation of friendship and harmony in society is respect for the native language and cultural values of every person. According to him, work to support the development of the Karakalpak and other languages is carried out in close interconnection with creating favorable conditions for learning the Uzbek language. He called for treating kindly those who have recently begun learning Uzbek, and also noted the importance of conditions enabling young people to think and create in Uzbek while simultaneously mastering foreign languages. He assigned a special role to the art of translation and to encouraging teachers of the Uzbek language abroad.

Education and public services

In the field of education, according to Mirziyoyev, the main attention should be paid to students' ability to read, understand, present and write correctly. He emphasized that there is a big difference between studying Uzbek as a native language and as a state language, and this should be taken into account when updating textbooks and methods. The quality of teaching, children's literature, libraries and modern educational tools increase interest in the language; he named family reading and attention to children's questions as an important part of the process. The president also noted that government institutions should set an example: laws, decisions, instructions and responses to appeals must be written in correct, clear and understandable language, and respect for the state language should be reflected in the quality of public services.

Science, terminology and the digital environment

Among the tasks, the president named expanding the possibilities of using modern scientific sources and presenting research results in Uzbek: in medicine, engineering, economics and other fields there is a great need for reliable literature, quality translations and electronic resources. He stated the need for cooperation between scientists, linguists, translators and specialists, and, when choosing terms, attention to accuracy, clarity and compliance with international scientific norms. He named as a separate task expanding the possibilities of fully using the Uzbek language in the digital environment: selecting quality texts, developing electronic dictionaries, translation and editing tools, speech-to-text and text-to-audio technologies. When developing such resources, he noted, norms on the protection of copyright and personal data must be observed, and access for persons with disabilities must be ensured. The quality of artificial intelligence technologies in content in the state language, according to him, is judged by how concrete and useful their assistance to a person is.

Spelling and context

In matters of writing and spelling, the main criteria should be convenience for reading, writing and using information, Mirziyoyev emphasized. Decisions in this direction, according to him, should be based on a scientific foundation, dialogue with the public and practical preparation, taking into account the mutual alignment of education systems, publishers and digital platforms and the needs of different generations. Concluding his congratulation, the president called on citizens to jointly contribute to increasing respect for the native language in the world and its participation in international dialogue. On the same day, as Gazeta reported, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law on improving the Uzbek alphabet based on the Latin script.
