Rules for assessing schoolchildren's behavior

Russia's Ministry of Education has established rules for assessing students' behavior as part of an experiment that will take place in the 2026/27 academic year, RIA Novosti reports. Schoolchildren's behavior will be assessed on three levels: 'exemplary', 'acceptable' and 'unacceptable'.

Who gives the assessment and how

The decision will be made by the class teacher based on the results of the quarter or trimester, as well as the academic year. When giving the assessment, the teacher must take into account their own observations and the opinions of other teachers. Teachers-defectologists and speech therapists, educational psychologists, social educators, the principal's advisors on upbringing, and school administration representatives may be involved in discussing a student's behavior.

Scale and criteria of the experiment

The pilot will cover students from the second to the eighth grade. In each region, at least 10 general education organizations were selected to participate in the experiment. Among the assessment criteria are discipline, compliance with the rules of interaction with students and adults, as well as lawful behavior.

Context: a new standard for high school

Earlier, Life.ru reported that the new educational standard for high school will not affect students who move into the 11th grade in September 2027 — they will complete their studies under the previous rules, while tenth-graders will begin studying under the updated program. The changes will take effect on September 1, 2027. The new Federal State Educational Standard for secondary general education will define the requirements for education in grades 10–11, and the transition will be gradual.
