Chakarra's victory in New Delhi
Spanish golfer Eugenio Chakarra, 26, won the DP World India Championship, held at the Delhi Golf Club course in New Delhi. He finished the tournament at 21-under, two strokes ahead of New Zealand's Daniel Hillier (19-under). Third place was shared by Chakarra's compatriot Angel Hidalgo and Poland's Adrian Meronk — both at 15-under.
Third title of the season
According to AFP, this is Chakarra's fourth victory on the DP World Tour: he previously won the Dutch Open and the 83 Open d'Italia in June, as well as the Indian Open last year. This season it is his third victory on the European tour. In the final round he shot 70 (2-under) with three birdies and one bogey and celebrated the victory with a clenched fist gesture.
Takes Race to Dubai lead
Thanks to the victory, Chakarra will move to first place in the Race to Dubai standings, overtaking Patrick Reed, who finished the tournament at 8-under.
Weather disruptions and results of other favourites
The tournament was disrupted by weather: due to the catch-up schedule, Chakarra completed the third round on Sunday morning and maintained his sole lead. Title holder Englishman Tommy Fleetwood finished fifth, tied with other players, at 13-under. Six-time major champion Rory McIlroy, who had been in contention after the first two weather-affected days, finished 42nd at 4-under.
