The key facts

  • Dedicated lanes totaling 17.9 km will appear on four routes: Mukimi (4.6 km), Karatosh and Kukcha Darvoza (4.2 km), Parkent (2.8 km), Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue (6.3 km)
  • Design documentation will preliminarily require about 6.5 billion soums from the Tashkent Development Fund; the customer will be JSC 'Toshkent invest kompaniyasi'
  • Specialists analyzed more than 150 km of roads with bus routes; the capital's vehicle fleet grows by about 30,000 cars per year

Plans for dedicated lanes

Tashkent plans to create dedicated bus lanes so that public transport can move faster and not depend on the general traffic flow. This was reported by the press service of the city khokimiyat; the information was published by UzNews.uz, Spot.uz, Zamon.uz and Daryo.uz on October 16–17, 2026. According to the administration, the project aims to improve the speed and comfort of public transport against the backdrop of the capital's vehicle fleet growing by about 30,000 cars annually. Zamon.uz noted that the goal is to make public transport an alternative to the private car.

Selected sections

Specialists analyzed more than 150 km of roads served by public transport routes. Based on the analysis, it was recommended to start work on almost 18 km. The project includes four directions with a total length of 17.9 km: Mukimi Street — 4.6 km in the Yashnabad and Chilanzar districts; Karatosh and Kukcha Darvoza streets — 4.2 km in the Shaykhantahur district; Parkent Street — 2.8 km in the Mirzo Ulugbek district; Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue — 6.3 km in the Mirzo Ulugbek district. On these sections, roads are planned to be repaired and separate lanes for buses created.

Financing and work organization

The decision of the city khokim has already been signed. The budget for developing the design documentation is currently being formed, which, according to preliminary estimates, will require about 6.5 billion soums. The expenses are planned to be covered by funds from the Tashkent City Development Fund. JSC 'Toshkent invest kompaniyasi' is expected to be designated as the customer of the projects, while design organizations, contractors and technical supervision organizations will be selected on a competitive basis in accordance with legislation.

Preparation and project requirements

Before construction work begins, it is necessary to survey engineering utilities and communal infrastructure networks. According to khokimiyat representatives, if faults are detected, the networks will be repaired, relocated or replaced in accordance with the established procedure; during the work, measures are provided for road safety and congestion prevention. Project requirements include convenient pedestrian routes, quality road signs, bus stop complexes and lighting. Special attention will be paid to pavement quality: it is planned to use stone mastic asphalt concrete mix (SMA) with polymer-modified bitumen and durable crushed rock, which, according to the khokimiyat, has been used in the capital since 2023 and has proven itself well in the local climate. Daryo.uz also reported that residents will be informed about the planned changes and the progress of the project.
