£3.6bn project proposed to stop sewage discharges into Lake Windermere
United Utilities and environmental campaigners have presented the 'Only Rainwater into Windermere' plan: a tunnel up to 19 km long, 138 km of new infrastructure and connection of 12,800 people to the sewerage network. The decision on funding and developing the project rests with the government.
