West Midlands shootings fell over six years: police and community
A region once dubbed the firearms crime capital of England and Wales has recorded a sharp drop in gun discharges: from 157 in 2020–21 to 69 last year and 30 in the first seven months of 2026. Police attribute this to the work of a serious crime unit, while a former gang member points to a cultural shift and youth outreach.
