'Mosquito toilets': how analyzing insect excretions helps find viruses before outbreaks
Entomologist Dana Price of Rutgers University has developed a 3D-printed trap that collects mosquito excretions to search for genetic traces of pathogens. Using it, a virus of the Hedwig type was detected in the Americas for the first time, and the complete genome of the West Nile virus was reconstructed.
