Physicists compressed water to 222 gigapascals and recorded a loss of symmetry in ice X
US scientists compressed water between diamond anvils to a pressure roughly 2.2 million times atmospheric and obtained experimental signs of a rearrangement of the ice X crystal lattice. The result refines the behavior of water at extreme pressures and is important for models of Uranus and Neptune.
