Reflect Orbital tested 'sunlight as a service': California test went ahead without warning astronomers
Reflect Orbital, a company developing the concept of delivering sunlight from orbit on demand, conducted a ground test in the California desert in October, using powerful searchlights instead of space mirrors. The FCC had earlier authorized the launch of the experimental satellite Earendil-1, despite objections from astronomers. Local scientists were not warned about the test.
