Oxford Street in London partially closed to traffic — almost a kilometre of the main shopping street becomes pedestrianised
From 26 October, the section of Oxford Street between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street is closed to cars, buses, taxis, bicycles and e-scooters. Mayor Sadiq Khan called the decision historic; a £150 million reconstruction lies ahead, but the project is contested over traffic on neighbouring streets and access for people with disabilities.
