Antarctic strait named after former BBC science correspondent Jonathan Amos
The Place-names Committee of the British Antarctic Territory has given the name Amos Channel to the strait between Rothschild Island and Alexander Island. The strait appeared after the ice mass connecting the islands broke apart. Amos was honoured for his 38 years at the BBC, where he covered Antarctic research, icebergs, the fate of penguin colonies and the discovery of the ship Endurance.
