Russia conducted its largest gold sale since 1998 to replenish its military budget
According to the Bank of Russia, gold reserves fell by another 0.2 million troy ounces (about 6.2 tonnes) in September — to 72.8 million ounces, the lowest level since late 2019. Since sales began in December, reserves have shrunk by roughly 62 tonnes. The central bank sold faster and more only in 1998, Reuters notes citing IMF statistics.
