New York City Marathon prepares to break its own record: 60,000 runners and two million spectators
The New York City Marathon takes place on Sunday — the second-largest marathon in history. After a record 59,226 finishers last year, organizers expect a new record: more than 240,000 people from 160 countries have applied. In 2026, it will be 50 years since the course first passed through all five boroughs of the city.
