Sheriff: Stonehaven train crash could have been prevented — drainage was not built to design
Following the fatal accident inquiry (FAI), Sheriff Lesley Johnston concluded that the August 2020 crash near Stonehaven, in which three people died, could have been avoided had the drainage been built in accordance with the design. Network Rail was previously fined £6.7 million; RAIB issued 20 recommendations, most of which have already been implemented.
