EU–Canada Summit in Montreal: 'Associated Membership' Without the Word 'Membership'
Canada and the EU are holding a two-day summit in Montreal to agree on the closest possible partnership outside the framework of membership. The term 'associated membership' was proposed by Ursula von der Leyen, but Germany and a number of countries secured its removal from the final declaration. On the agenda are critical minerals, digital trade, AI, defence and the Erasmus programme.
