Exhibition 'Ara Guler – Master of Leica' Opens in Istanbul, Highlighting the Photographer's Bond with Leica

The Ara Guler Museum in Istanbul's Bomontiada complex has unveiled its thirteenth exhibition, titled 'Ara Guler – Master of Leica', highlighting the photographer's enduring relationship with the German camera manufacturer Leica. The exhibition traces this connection from Guler receiving the prestigious 'Master of Leica' title in 1962 to his induction into the Leica Hall of Fame in 2015. Organized by the Ara Guler Archive and Research Center (AGAVAM) in partnership with Leica Camera AG, the display will remain open until April 18, 2027. The exhibition features photographs published in Leica magazine, the actual cameras used by Guler, his personal technical notes, and handwritten correspondence with editors, including letters to Leica magazine dating back to 1961, though their relationship began in the 1950s. Cagla Sarac, director of AGAVAM, emphasized that only 15 photographers have ever been awarded the 'Master of Leica' title, with Guler being the only one from Turkey. The museum intentionally avoids permanent exhibitions, utilizing its vast archive to regularly present new shows; the previous exhibition focused on Guler's coverage of the Cannes Film Festival.
