Scientists discover a mechanism in the hippocampus that, after fear learning, blends representations of danger and safety
A study by McGill University and the University of Toronto, published in Nature Neuroscience, showed that after fear learning, the neural representations of dangerous and safe settings in the mouse ventral hippocampus do not diverge but overlap more strongly. The authors interpret this as a prioritization of the speed of the defensive response at the cost of possible false alarms.
