Vietnam's leader To Lam arrives in Brussels: trade with the EU grows amid criticism over human rights
The General Secretary of the Communist Party and President of Vietnam, To Lam, arrived on an official visit to the EU and Belgium just days after Vietnam signed a free trade agreement with EFTA. Relations are deepening: in January the sides moved to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, but 12 human rights organizations in an open letter urged the EU to demand reforms, pointing to intensified repression and Hanoi's failure to fulfill its EVFTA commitments.
